Hiccup Hypnosis - My favourite memory of Auntie Sue

Created by Daniel 2 years ago

One of my favourite memories of my Auntie Sue was first hearing her use the 'Hiccup hypnosis' technique on my sister Rhiannon during one of our many family get togethers.

For those not in the know, the technique works by getting the 'Hiccupee' to focus their thoughts on their breath and using calm, softly spoken and reassuring language. "You're only allowed 1 more hiccup, Rhiannon. And after that your hiccups will go..." The reality is Rhiannon wasn't the ideal patient for this technique, her bout of hiccups were infamous for both longevity and strength. Sue was brave for taking on this challenge.

For me this is an excellent way I can remember Auntie Sue. It's something about how she delivered this hypnosis technique that I'll never forget, it completely encapsulated what she was like: soothingly kind, gentle, fiercely caring, a healthcare practitioner at heart and living life for others.

Above all it was Sue's undivided attention she gave to each conversation that i'll remember the most. There was no small talk or pleasantries with Sue because she really did listen and care for what you were saying.

If I eventually end up having kids, then I can't wait to use Auntie Sue's Hiccup Hypnosis technique whenever there's a bout of hiccups... Thank you Auntie Sue! <3
